WRTC ESL-BILINGUAL TEACHER / SCHOOL PERSONNEL TRAINING PROGRAM

The Wind River Tribal College had been awarded an ESL/English as a Second Language/Bilingual Education Teacher – School Personnel Training grant from The U.S. Department of Education. The purpose of this project is to prepare teachers and other school personal to focus on both the theory and practice of language sensitive pedagogy that builds towards the specific attention to English as a Second Language methodology to provide effective services to LEP (Limited English Proficient) students and to be trained in the socio-cultural processes in the local tribal communities and classrooms.
FOR TEACHERS AND ADMINISTRATORS

The benefits of this program will prove invaluable to you in regards to receiving local and state endorsements in ESL/Bilingual Ed. which can be attached to any teaching license if you are currently a teacher or administrator and possible advancement in your districts pay scale policy during and when you complete the training program. The only draw back that we are currently facing is that if you are a licensed teacher or administrator this particular program only offers undergraduate credits from the University of Wyoming and that we may have in the next year on-line graduate credit courses from the University of Texas in ESL (Language as a Second Language). Your Education Plan will be at a minimum of six to seven credit hours per semester including summer sessions that could be taken on-line from your home and at the tribal college if the course is offered on site with an instructor. Your tuition, books and fees will be paid for by the project with a bi-weekly stipend of $50.00.

FOR TEACHER AIDS – PARA EDUCATORS – LANGUAGE/CULTURE TEACHERS

The benefits reflect a different approach for language and culture teachers, teacher aids or Para educators working in the classrooms to also receive local and state endorsements. If you are currently at a Jr. Grade level standing in college and pursuing a degree in education you will also receive the same training as the teachers and administrators.
For the teacher aids and culture teachers who are at a freshmen and sophomore standing you will receive course work that focuses on the local endorsement in Bilingual Education through Central Wyoming College and the University of Wyoming and at a minimum of six credit hours per semester including summer sessions at the tribal college or rotating school sites. Your tuition, books and fees will be paid for by the project with a bi-weekly stipend of $50.00.

Wind River Tribal College has been awarded a 5 year Title III Teachers and Other Educational Personnel Training grant.
